Am running Win 2000 Pro - never dared go to Vista!Missed the boat for XP!

Am very concerned about lots of my software apps (for work), which run great on Win 2000 and would probably have run also on XP, but may not run on Win7. Just cannot afford to replace them and many cannot even be upgraded except at great cost.

All bad news as far as I am concerned!

An Apple ad when windoze95 came around : Windows 1995 = Mac 1984. I guess they still have not caught up. Also with the free, stable and brilliant Ubuntu, whats the point of paying Billy Goat and his crowd for stuff that kinda-sorta works.

I roll around in laughter at the celebration of small virtues of an archaic OS, that one needs to pay exhorbitant amounts for....

@Judith: I've had no network connection issues with Win7. There's a handy icon in the taskbar for quick access to network connectivity, including several wizards for joining an existing network or creating a new "homegroup".

@Haneef: I intend switching to 64 bit computing next year when I purchase new hardware. The Win7 install experience is so painless, that its taken the dread out of it for me.

I would have taken a chance with the 64-bit. It would save you having to do the dreaded fresh install when you do decide to migrate from the 32-bit.
I'm currently running XP64 bit with no regrets. I do agree that drivers can be a problem, especially for older devices. I find the 64 bit much more stable. Even if you don't have much 64 bit software running, you at least have the operating system operating at 64bit.

I'm looking orward to my new laptop then - network connectivity - is that simple too? As a retired tekkie, I really appreciate good connectivity to my local network as my company expects me to connect just like that!
