I bought a Kindle back in November and without a doubt it’s one of the best tech-related things I’ve bought. Some of the highlights:

1 - The screen reads beautifully. No eye fatigue, clear text, after awhile you forget that you’re actually reading off a screen.
2 - The ability to buy and receive books from the Amazon store within 60 seconds.
3 - The native support for PDFs. To convert other formats you simply email them to your free Kindle email address and within 60s you’ll have a Kindle-friendly file that you can then copy over to your Kindle - all for free.

As a student this thing is phenomenal; I can’t imagine having to go back to reading PDFs and journal articles off a computer screen again.

People purchased albums with beautiful album artwork and there was a much more grandiose feeling to buying an album from your favourite band. These days the feeling is somewhat cheapened and the average consumer is very much aware they are paying royalties for the music rather than for the actual physical product which we like to own. After all, many people buy CDs and almost immediately rip the disc for use on their media player of choice. Movies are going a similar route — with the ease of use iTunes and the advent of cheap broadband, the idea of having to buy a DVD is also very quickly becoming old news.
