Nokia makes some strange decisions. What stands out for me is that a few years ago, when some manufacturers came out with touchscreen phones (which were far from perfect), Nokia reported that they don't see these phones working well and they were not rushing out to release one. No doubt, someone with a fruity name recognised the problem and did something about it.
On the Nokia 9300i, A smart phone with qweryty keyboard, but without a camera - Nokia said that based on their research, some users did not want a camera. My thoughts on hearing this was to wonder who they were talking to.

All I can say is that the E63 is the cheapest answer to the Blackberry ever. It's a great phone, simple, great standard functions (e-mail, web-browsing, SUPERB calendar which you can actually USE, massively intuitive). You can overlay Google maps and GPS data with minimal effort. The latest firmware pretty much rids it of the occasional error. Oh and the torch is sure to impress the ladies. Its as solid as can be too ... And for less then R100 a month from MTN (for R10 airtime a month) it frigging rocks my world. I can only imagine the E72 is AMAZING!

"Broadband" isn't cheap either. Like bread, milk & honey and subsidized cars.

Odd that, South Africa is the only country where the Network operators would inflate the price of a piece of hardware, rather than lower it so you spend more money on the network.....

Are current generation Nokia's really that different. Apart from the new touch screens - 5800, N97 and N900, etc - I'd say they pretty similar, or having very similar operating characteristics. This was quiet obvious even before the Ovi Store arrived - when you could download applications from Mosh for Nokia and some other Symbian site. I've downloaded many applications that where written for N95, N96 & E71 and they all work fine on my E90. Indeed I have several N80 themes on my device, the Large Time display, for the N95, works on every Nokia I've tried it on. Same with the Windows Live Messenger & Skype applications. Even a scientific calculator. Okay, that last one was from Nokia Beta Labs and works on any 3rd Edition Symbian OS Nokia - but not on the E90's big screen, only the outer.

I see Nokia Messaging is now available to a very large number of N-series devices, and a wider selection of E-series. Also, everytime I check, I see more applications at the Ovi Store. Your emails will be delivered to your N95 as they're sent - pushed. How old is the N95? Not much of a problem because the E90 is built on the same processor. Looks like Nokia's software drive - Ovi Store - over the last year and a half will add some more mileage yet to many a good hardware out there.
