I bought a Google G1 in the UK, unlocked it, and brought it to South Africa. The Market works fine on my phone, except that I cant download "paid" apps, only free ones. There is no point buying the phone without the Market, as the apps add so much value.

@walter: its not Google stopping us getting the market - its leaf. Its unacceptable, and locking us in to their service is not web2.0 at all. That's very Microsoft BS

Hi,

I agree with your entire review, well done. The only thing i am dissapointed about is the Marketplace ! I think its great that Leaf is trying to give us something, lets face it, Google has left us alone...AGAIN. Can we not encourage the Android community to start supporting this OpenMarket concept, i have already donated a wack of content to them and would hope that others start doing the same. Its a Web2 concept so the community should play a big role. The G1 is an awsome phone, so too the Magic. I think Android is here to stay, i know I'm hooked.

Great article. Both Leaf and Vodacom have confirmed to me that we are getting the proper android market soon. Leaf are currently testing it. So, a little patience and we'll have that 9 out of 10.

I love this phone!
