What is misanthropic is the implication that 'justification' is needed to add to the population. 'Fathers are irrelevant' isn't improving matters either.

@Mother: What makes you see me as misanthropic? I haven't yet adopted, only because my life hasn't yet been stable enough. I have lived with and given love to many other people's children, though.

By the way, population science is concerned only with the number of kids per mother. Fathers are irrelevant.

@ Michael Graaf
Have you adopted an orphan? Everyone eventually subtracts one from the population. Two parents one child is a net decrease. You should not be so misanthropic; "what these long haired hippie types don't understand is that its love that makes the world go around" - PIL

Thanks Mbongiseni
Africans have a beautiful oral culture which they don't easily divulge to “strangers”. There is very little written about the African’s view of reality. Westerners need Africans like you that can put their view of reality in writing. I encourage you and others to take the lead in being the real African voice.

i, now understand you even more, as your former student and research supervisor.

i am more than impressed at you inquiring more on how other people live, about their culture. this attitude of learning more about other people's cultures will not only bear fruits for ICT4D, but also for all humankind.

this is to say if each and every person in SA will forget about assumptions of others and inquire more, then we can have a very different SA to what we have now.

your approach can solve many problems in many spheres, i.e. in SA varsities, the majority of dropouts are Africans, blacks to be precise. if lecturers can challenge themselves in understanding the social background/culture of blacks, i believe, it is then they can identify their uniquely different background/culture that if understood, lecturers can now lecture in a style that will in a way be understood by these student from deprived social reality.

i will make an example by myself and friends. when i got into a university of kzn, i was overwhelmed by big buildings, and mostly meeting people who spoke english so well. during registration, i was given a pamphlet that i was told to use as my timetable - very confusing...

better solutions will come from an inclusive culture that does not assume.

Same old self-justification for adding to the population: I will do a better job than all those other parents out there.

Maybe so - but the same nurturing could be provided to adopted orphans instead of letting them languish.
